Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris had served as U.S. vice president since January 2021 and was the first Black woman and first Asian American to lead a major party’s presidential ticket. A lawyer by trade, Harris rose through the California legal system and emerged as state attorney general in 2010. She became just the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to win a seat in the U.S. Senate, where she served for four years beginning in January 2017. Harris resigned just before assuming the vice presidency within Joe Biden’s administration. She was the first woman, first Black person, and first Asian American to serve in the role. After Biden pulled out of their 2024 reelection bid in late July, Harris became the clear frontrunner and accepted the Democratic nomination a month later. She went on to lose the November’s general election to Donald Trump.
